There were many personal touches, we were wecomed by very friendly and helpful staff and given a private room away from a function to eliminate any disturbances. The location was lovely and had stunning views. Breakfast was very tasty! Would definately return.
Lovely (& unusual!) room up in the roof, with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside. Pretty garden, with nice seat by the pond. Staff very friendly and helpful. Bar meal excellent. Good choice of beers at bar
Friendly staff, nice rural location, room with character and big bathroom. Food basic but just fine after a long journey. Close to motorway but not too close.
Location, comfortable room, very helpfull and friendly staff
Country position with fabulous views, good car parking. Evening meal was very good with most helpful staff member.
Fabulous friendly service excellent food and a lovely team of people to make your stay so special
I missed having a bath but it wasn't a huge problem the shower was lovely.
This is a traditional country house hotel which has maintained its character. The staff were welcoming and helpful and I was very happy to stay here particularly as I was given the bridal suite for my one night stay - I wished I had booked for longer. Food was excellent with a good selection and the prices reflected very good value for money.
We really liked the proximity to both The Lakes and motorway. The ambiance of the hotel was wonderful. It kept the features of the Georgian house but also incorporated modern/contemporary design into the room. The layout of the room was very well thought out. Staff were very welcoming and the food was great. The grounds are beautiful and everything was done to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We will now make this our regular place to stay when we visit friends at Ullswater.
For a loger stay it would be nice to have a spa.
We were guests at the Risman 50th Wedding Anniversary. The reception and meal were first class and very well orgainsied. Our room (No 7) was fine and very clean etc but the toilet roll holder fell off the wall and we were unable to open the windows - our fault probably. Also, the door lock was very difficult to oped and needs attention. Breakfast was fine but our table was too small for the number of people sitting at it ( 6) and you could have done with extra staff on duty to clear the table after earlier gusts had finished. This is not a criticism of the girls who were on duty and working very hard, rather the staff ratio. All in all we enjoyed our stay, The views were magnificent and the whole stay most enjoyable.
Service and staff were excelent .
I found your hotel , very anti invalid friendly .as we had to struggle to climb the stairs to room number 9 .It would have been impossible for anybody with any disability to climb those stairs . I find it very hard to believe your hotel has a rating of 5 star .without ramps at doors , and facilitys for disabled people. Yours thankfuly.
Proficient, friendly staff, superb dinner, freshly well cooked breakfast.
Our room was at the top of the house, up a steep, narrow staircase on which it would have been difficult to carry a large suitcase. Found it somewhat weird that the window was low in the wall - had to lie flat to see out!
This hotel is simply gorgeous. Staff, food and facilities are brilliant. Location is brilliant - only a cheap cab ride from Penrith train station (a market town which in itself is great - away from tourists, but close enough to access all of The Lakes District by train or car). Can't recommend highly enough!
Nothing. There are no lifts, if that bothers you; wasn't a problem for us though.
The location is ideal for us as it is in a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of town life. The building is beautiful, ideal for a wedding reception. The staff were friendly and were interested in how we were spending our time. Wish we could have stayed longer. It was nice to have a lounge area to sit and have a drink and the breakfasts were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
Beautiful setting in Lakes District countryside. Elegantly furnished, extremely courteous and helpful staff.
Crowded with party-goers at a function downstairs but we were politely advised of this by management in advance and opted to stay. Only down-side was being placed on top floor walk-up room to be away from function noises. It was indeed quiet but not the lovely room we would have expected otherwise.
Quiet, private and conveniently situated close to Penrith and M6
